Years in business:
I will be proud to celebrate my eighth year anniversary this December as being a Licensed Family Childcare Provider.
My Experience:
When I was living in California I became involved with working with children while in High School. I worked as an assistant in a family home day care setting for just about a year. I also worked at a Montessori school as the infant teacher. I then pursued my dream and went to college and took classes involving Early Childhood Education. I pursued my career and used my skills obtained through college courses and went to work at a church preschool where I was the teacher for the two-year-old class. I then moved up to Oregon and started working in a preschool. For two years I was the teacher at this preschool for 2 ½ year olds. I was promoted to the site Director position that I also held while being the teacher for twos. I chose to start my family and during that time I took courses to become a Licensed Home Childcare provider so I could be home with my child. This December I am proud to celebrate my 4 year anniversary as being a Licensed Home Childcare Provider.
My Training:
I completed the Food handlers’ class and received my certificate. I also took courses and completed the required course work in the field of Child Abuse and Neglect. I am Adult and Child/infant CPR & First aid trained. I continue to take workshops and courses and read different materials that I come into contact with involving Early Childhood.
My Philosophy:
Is to give my best at being a teacher, caregiver and provider for each child. Children will always be treated with kindness, respect and fairness. They will be taught to respect others and how to get along with each other. I encourage independence, individuality and ways to express such. My mission is to provide a warm, caring environment where their emotional, physical, social and educational development of each child is supported and stimulated by providing quality care. Children deserve to be treated and respected as individuals in an environment that welcomes reason, exploration, and imagination. I respect each child’s need for love, security, acceptance, warmth and stimulation. I believe a child’s early experiences enrich and stimulate future growth.
My Goals:
The main goal of this childcare is to have fun, build and improve on social skills and encourage creative expression. While in my care your child will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities, which promote all aspects of development. Free play, reading, arts and crafts, sensory play, science, flannel board, music/singing, dancing, dramatic play/pretend, puzzles and educational TV/ videos are just some of the activities we will be doing. I have a variety of toys and materials readily available to the children.
Cozy Corner Childcare provides for the children the comfort and experience of belonging to an extended family. I provide a homelike setting; therefore I do not follow a strict routine. My approach to childcare is child centered and child directed when possible. We will utilize a variety of experiences each day. They may include small chores like watering plants, baking cookies, feeding pets, clearing the table after meals, clean up, etc. Studies have shown that these types of activities nurture a sense of well being and belonging in children and contribute dramatically towards the development of self-esteem. The goal of these activities is to have fun and provide a little extra learning stimulation for the older children. It will not be as rigorous academic program as young children still learn best from participating in and observing the environment around them.
I provide the environment, the children then discover and lead me. Children are offered choices whenever possible. There will be some weeks your child will be bringing home papers every day, there will also be days that your child does not bring home any papers except for the daily report sheet. It will depend on the activities that we are doing. Just because you are not seeing anything in the way of papers does not mean that we have not been busy all day.
I focus on the PROCESS not the PRODUCT. A lot of our learning is done with hands-on things like our sensory table, magnets, science, books, baking, file folder games, basket games, flannel board, dramatic play areas etc.
